The HBD Camp coaches are committed to teaching the fundamentals of the game of basketball. Our many years of basketball experience, both playing and coaching, has led us to the belief that girls are not taught the basics of the game. So much emphasis is now put on strategy and physical play at the expense of really teaching girls how to shoot, dribble, pass and play defense properly. At HBD Camp, we break down the fundamentals, work on them daily, and stress to the girls the importance of working on what they learn in the off season.
Skills that we typically work on each day at HBD Camp are:
- ball handling
- shooting form and technique
- passing
- moving without the basketball
- post moves
- defensive technique and positioning
- rebounding
If you and your daughter are just interested in scrimmaging, please DO NOT send her to HBD Camp. It plays a very small role in our camp.
In addition to the fundamentals, we are also committed to teaching about the "mental" aspects of the game of basketball and the more important "game" we call life. We begin and end each camp session with thoughts and reflections from the HBD Camp Notebook that each camper is given at the beginning of the week. The Notebook focuses on things like honesty, integrity, hustle, desire, hard work, and belief--both in ourselves and in God. We, as coaches, want the campers to recognize the importance of incorporating these characteristics into their game of basketball and "game" of life.
